History
Centre of Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu in Torun was set up by The Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland in 2006 as a part of realizing a Ministry programme called Znaki Czasu (Signs of Time).
Setting up this institution was possible thanks to the agreement of four partners: The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, The Government of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region, the Council of Torun and the Znaki Czasu Friends of Fine Arts Association in Torun. Thanks to the town's own resources and to the EU subsidies (as a part of the Integrated Regional Operational Programme), as well as thanks to the subsidies of The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, in 2006 the building of Centre of Contemporary Art was begun.
The building is located in the immediate vicinity of the Old Town. On the 27th of October 2006 the foundation stone was set. The building of the CoCA was completed in December 2007. This also meant the completion of the first building which realized the aims of the programme of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage called Znaki Czasu. CoCA in Torun is the first completely newly built venue dedicated to contemporary art in Poland since 1939.
On 14th of June 2008 the CoCA was opened to the public.
